Public Art Project Uncovers the History of an Ancient Mexican Civilization
A new public art exhibit in the Chicago area is exploring the history of an ancient Mexican civilization.
Long before the Aztecs or the Maya, there were the Olmecs. Their people once lived along the southeast border of Mexico in what is now Veracruz; they are considered one of the most influential civilizations of Mesoamerica.
Now, a symbol of their legacy — the Olmec head — is at the center of “Olmec Trails: Culture and Legacy,” a public art project on display at various locations in the Chicago area through October.
The exhibition will kick off Sunday with a Family Fiesta from 2-6 p.m. at the Lakeside Pavilion in Glen Ellyn.
